Semmaris, the company managing the International Market of Rungis, has signed a partnership agreement with the GAG Ghassan Aboud Group and the KIZAD Abu Dhabi Port Authorities in order to support the creation of the future agro-logistics hub of Abu Dhabi. The signing and official launch of this project took place in the Kizad logistics area, located halfway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in the presence of the project’s sponsors and the highest Emirati authorities.
For the implementation of the infrastructure, this public-private project will benefit from the expertise of Semmaris, the company managing the largest fresh produce market in the world and the world’s leading operator in terms of agro-logistics infrastructures.
Three years ago, Semmaris had started negotiating with the GAG Ghassan Aboud Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the Middle East, and with the KIZAD Abu Dhabi Port Authorities, a group of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, on this project aiming at storing food products and deploying a logistic and digital capacity on a regional scale (Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman).
“Thanks to the expertise of Semmaris, the International Market of Rungis has become a flagship in agro-logistics in France and abroad. Abu Dhabi is emblematic of our international development strategy of a network of efficient and connected markets because it is a hub for the new international trade routes. The country benefits from infrastructures and an economic and diplomatic environment that is highly favorable for the development of this project,” explains Stéphane Layani, president of the Rungis market. “This partnership is perfectly in line with the announcements made during the visit from French president Emmanuel Macron at the end of 2021. It is also another example of cooperation between France and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”
Initiated by the CEO of Semmaris and with the support of the French economic diplomacy, Semmaris has developed an international consultancy business to help with the creation of agro-logistic markets and hubs: Vietnam, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and also recently Nigeria. This model allows the International Market of Rungis to play the role of flag bearer of French excellence and to promote the positioning of companies in areas as diverse as food processing, construction, engineering and industrial refrigeration.
